Love is in the Air!

on Thu, 09/10/2015 - 10:10
The ARCS 2015-16 Season is off to a soaring start! Our warmest welcome to all new and returning singers to our family of choirs. Our theme this season is "Love is in the Air" and a rich diet of musical gems has been selected to challenge, exhilirate and entertain.
Now in our 14th Season, ARCS continues to provide adults from all walks of life a non-auditioned, recreational choral experience. Our community continues to grow as we awaken, nurture and share the magic of voices in harmony. Our Family of Choirs includes Up2Something (mixed-voice performing choir); Up2Christmas (women's performing choir); Something Lite (mixed-voice non-performing choir); and She's Up2Something (women's performing choir). Our performances are enjoyed by thousands each year through our signature concerts at Christmas and Springtime.
With the start of another season comes the excitement of fresh music, new friends, familar faces, and endless possibilities. We thrive on the energy of our members, who contribute countless volunteer hours to ensure our organization flourishes. The artistic and admin teams look forward to collaborating with our singers to make our 14th season a great success.
If you're new to ARCS, please take some time to become familiar with our website. Under the "Members' Links" tab you'll find some useful resources to assist in your learning. If you're thinking about joining a choir, have a look at the "Join Us" tab and consider dropping in to a rehearsal to check us out. Please note that we fill up quickly, so not all programs may be accepting new singers.

Season Finale Success!

Congratulations to all for a stunning season finale! "Dance to the Music", ARCS' 2014-15 production took the stage at the Arts Commons' Martha Cohen Theatre on June 6 and 7 in three sold-out performances. With repertoire ranging from Big Band to Country, Disco to Hip Hop, the choirs of ARCS sang and danced their way through a fast-paced, entertaining and fun song and dance extravaganza.
Up2Something and She's Up2Something combined forces once again to close ARCS' 13th Season, joined by some talented guests and an entourage of behind-the-scenes sound and lighting pros, backstage volunteers and a host of movers and shakers. Nothing of this magnitude comes together without hours of rehearsal, talented leadership, dedicated volunteers and stamina. We had all of these in spades and what a show it was!
The ARCS Family of Choirs extends heartfelt thanks to each and every one that played a part in making "Dance to the Music" a success. Our non-auditioned, adult recreational choirs continue to flourish thanks to the passion and dedication of our members, our fans and our supporters. Hats off to you all!
Summer is here and we're gearing up for another season of singing and, ahem, dancing. Those wishing to keep their vocal cords in shape over the summer can enjoy "Something Lite Summer" while others opt for the start of our performing choirs in the fall. We're going strong and looking forward to singing with you in 2015-16!
Happy Summer Everyone!

Six guest choirs joined them, along with the incredible, energetic and hilarious Heebee-jeebees, to perform for a sold-out audience on Saturday, April 18th. That Was Really Something!

on Sun, 02/22/2015 - 12:56
The ARCS 2015 Talent Show & Silent Auction on February 21st at the Gateway on SAIT's Campus was a tour de force of incredible performances. The members of ARCS took the spotlight for this annual event showcasing their talent to the delight of an enthusiastic audience. 23 acts seized the theme "Dance to the Music" and astounded everyone in attendance with their polished performances, stunning costumes, creativity and staging. The audience got in on the action with competitions for best "Twist" couple and best "Village People" impersonation. The emcees, Lyndia and Shari, did an outstanding job of introducing the acts with humor and sass. Guests bid on items in the Silent Auction and entered to win half the pot in a 50:50 draw.
Over the past thirteen years, ARCS has committed itself to awakening, nurturing and sharing the magic of voices in harmony. The ARCS Talent Show is an extension of that mission - and what an experience it is to see the fruits of our labour. Newcomers to our organization joined with more seasoned members on stage, each bringing something truly special and unique. To know that we've provided an opportunity for adults to express their talents, creativity and, frankly, brilliance is incredibly gratifying. To each and every performer who took up the challenge, our most heartfelt and enthusiastic congratulations. You were and are AMAZING!
Behind the scenes is another tour de force of dedicated staff and volunteers who made the Talent Show possible.

Something Christmas!

on Mon, 12/15/2014 - 13:16
The ARCS Family of Choirs proudly presented three performances of "Something Christmas" on December 7 and 8 and Riverpark Church.  Along with emcee and storyteller Steve Olson, Up2Christmas and Up2Something delighted audiences with performances of seasonal favorites, including "Jingle Bells", "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming", "Huron Carol" and "We Need a Little Christmas".  The combined choir of 150 voices served up spine-tingling renditions of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and "O Holy Night".  The audience joined in on a special "Holiday Sing-Along" that included "Deck the Hall" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas".  A grand time was had by all!
2014 marked the 10th Anniversary of "Up2Christmas" - a seasonal chorus that began in 2005 under the direction of Brian Bowman.  Over time, it has become a women's chorus.  Under the direction of Michelle Kotelko, it has flourished and grown to its present size of approximately 75 enthusiastic and talented women.  Up2Something - a mixed chorus of some 85 men and women -- has lent there voices to the annual Christmas production and 2014 was no exception.  Video recordings of the exceptional performances of these two choirs is available on YouTube along with a selection of photos from the production, available by clicking here.
ARCS is now accepting new singers to two of its programs: She's Up2Something and Something Lite.  More information on these excellent singing opportunities is available by clicking on the "Join Us" tab.
