Calgary Sings! 2015

on Sun, 04/19/2015 - 10:28
The Sixth Biennial Calgary Sings! was a smashing success! Up2Something and She's Up2Something rocked RockPointe Church with a preview of music to be performed at their season finale, "Dance to the Music". Six guest choirs joined them, along with the incredible, energetic and hilarious Heebee-jeebees, to perform for a sold-out audience on Saturday, April 18th. It was a wildly entertaining evening celebrating our love of singing, culminating in a Mass Choir of almost 400 voices joining for a stirring performance of "Why We Sing".
The choirs of ARCS are proud to present this biennial event, proceeds from which support Music Therapy programs at Carewest Continuing Care Centres through the Calgary Health Trust. Over the years, ARCS has contributed thousands of dollars to this worthwhile, life-changing program benefiting those with dementia, Alzheimers and other illnesses.
Our thanks to our guest choirs, our family members from SomethingLite and an army of volunteers who helped make Calgary Sings! 2015 a great success. For a complete listing of partipating choirs and links to their websites, please visit our Calgary Sings! page.
The ARCS Family of Choirs is now preparing for our season finale, "Dance to the Music!", taking place June 6 and 7 at the Martha Cohen Theatre, Arts Commons. Tickets go on sale for this event on April 23rd. Check back here for more info and to get your tickets!

That Was Really Something!

The ARCS 2015 Talent Show & Silent Auction on February 21st at the Gateway on SAIT's Campus was a tour de force of incredible performances. The members of ARCS took the spotlight for this annual event showcasing their talent to the delight of an enthusiastic audience. 23 acts seized the theme "Dance to the Music" and astounded everyone in attendance with their polished performances, stunning costumes, creativity and staging. The audience got in on the action with competitions for best "Twist" couple and best "Village People" impersonation. The emcees, Lyndia and Shari, did an outstanding job of introducing the acts with humor and sass. Guests bid on items in the Silent Auction and entered to win half the pot in a 50:50 draw.
Over the past thirteen years, ARCS has committed itself to awakening, nurturing and sharing the magic of voices in harmony. The ARCS Talent Show is an extension of that mission - and what an experience it is to see the fruits of our labour. Newcomers to our organization joined with more seasoned members on stage, each bringing something truly special and unique. To know that we've provided an opportunity for adults to express their talents, creativity and, frankly, brilliance is incredibly gratifying. To each and every performer who took up the challenge, our most heartfelt and enthusiastic congratulations. You were and are AMAZING!
Behind the scenes is another tour de force of dedicated staff and volunteers who made the Talent Show possible.
